European Charter for Sustainable Tourism from the Alt Pirineu Natural Park

The CETS (Sustainable Tourism Certification) is an initiative that recognizes establishments and businesses that respect the values of sustainability and environmental preservation, especially in natural environments. In our case, the fact that the hotel is part of the CETS of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park means that the hotel meets the standards and good practices related to environmental protection, sustainability, and responsible tourism development in this protected area.

This means that, in addition to enjoying an incredible natural environment, guests can be assured that their accommodation contributes to the conservation of this natural park, minimizing environmental impact and promoting a more nature-respectful way of traveling.

This accreditation is an initiative of the EUROPARC Federation, an organization that brings together protected natural areas from 38 European countries. EUROPARC is the managing entity that grants CETS membership to protected areas, verifying that there is a commitment to applying the principles of sustainable tourism within the natural park area and its defined area of influence. The Charter, however, is much more than a quality label; it is a working method and a planning tool, as well as a commitment between space managers, tourism businesses, and other entities and stakeholders in the region.

The Sustainable Tourism Charter is a set of principles and guidelines that promote the responsible management of tourism in natural areas and territories with high environmental and cultural value. In the context of natural parks and other protected areas, the Charter seeks to ensure that tourism is not only an economic source but also a mechanism for preserving and protecting the environment and local traditions.

The main objectives of this Charter are:

  • Promoting responsible tourism: Encouraging activities that respect the environment, biodiversity, and local culture, avoiding the excessive exploitation of natural resources.
  • Integrating sustainability: Tourism businesses and institutions that follow this Charter adopt practices that reduce environmental impact (such as energy efficiency, waste management, and respecting natural spaces) and also value social and economic sustainability.
  • Collaboration between local actors: The Charter encourages collaboration between public administration, tourism businesses, local communities, and conservation organizations to ensure coherent territory management.
